Reviving Open Link With

People often ask me why I only publish apps for Android, and not for iOS.

Asides from the egregious yearly App Store fees, the main reason is that Android is fundamentally a platform that respects user choice (for the most part, although this is becoming less and less so over the years).

An excellent example of that is the Open Link With app, created by Said Tahsin Dane. This app allows you to share a link to it, and then choose which native app or browser you want to open it with, without being forced to use the default app.

Unfortunately, the app is no longer maintained by the original developer, as it does not target the latest Android SDK. On August 31, 2024, Google required all apps to target at least Android 13, or they would be removed from the Play Store, including Open Link With.

So, I decided to fork the app, upgrade it to the latest SDK, and re-publish it on the Play Store.

You can find the new version of the app here, called Open Link With: Redux.

Beyond the upgrade, I hope to continue to work on the app, fixing some of the issues that have been reported.

If you have any suggestions, please feel free to open an issue on GitHub. I'll also try to have a look at the issues that have been reported on the original repository, and see if I can fix any of them.
